Newborn
What better what to capture your child’s first few weeks in the world than in the comfort of your home?
I'm sure you have a lot of questions about what to expect during this session. To help with this, I’ve answered a few commonly asked questions below, but if you still have questions please feel free to contact me and we’ll chat!
What do I need to do to prepare my home for the session?
First, don’t worry about cleaning or moving stuff—you just had a baby! All you need to do is open the blinds/curtains and let in as much light as possible. If there are any obstacles in the shot, I can move them (within reason) for the shot and then replace them when we’re done. The main places I like to do newborn photos is in the nursery, living room, and master bedroom. The master bedroom is the best for snuggle pictures! I only request that you have a neutral comforter on the bed so we can create soft and airy pictures. And if weather permits, we can also take some outside photos!
What kind of time frame will be needed?
These sessions usually take longer than usual due to feedings and diaper/outfit changes, so I would be sure to plan for 1 - 3 hours. I recommend feeding your baby right before I arrive so he or she is sleepy and happy. We will work around your baby’s schedule and needs to keep everyone as happy and content as possible during the shoot.
What should we wear?
A good rule of thumb is to keep your outfit(s) simple and comfortable. Neutral/light (whites, creams, grays or pastel tones) work best. Those colors will ensure that all the attention is on the beauty of your new baby. Also, I would recommend avoiding outfits with logos. This is your session though, so I will gladly work with whatever you have in mind! As for baby, the same rule of thumb: keep it simple and comfortable. Plain onesies photograph well with a cute bow or hat, or baby can be swaddled in a soft blanket.
Do you use props and take those newborn pictures I see everywhere?
The style I'm professional in is lifestyle sessions. Rather than posed newborn shots, I love to capture the love between parents, siblings, and new baby. I will still take individual photographs of the baby and capture all the little details and facial expressions. This is an exciting time for you and your family, so I encourage you to incorporate anything special or sentimental in the shoot.
